General Safety and Health Information

The West Nile virus was identified in Africa in 1937, but it wasn’t until 1999 that this potentially serious illness reached the shores of North America. Last year the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) reported 2,470 cases of West Nile in the U.S. and 88 resulting deaths, and that was an improvement over 2003 when 9,862 cases were reported and 264 people died. Oregon OSHA has developed an excellent publication on comprehensive safety and health programs.  While Colorado employers are not required to develop a formal Safety and Health Program, this is an excellent resource that describes how an employer can develop a proactive program to help prevent occupational injuries.
